Early morning dew on webs
This was a magical morning … with a quietly made cup of coffee so as not to wake those sleeping in at the cottage, a friend and I had a silent paddle with our coffee and cameras.

Hands down, early morning canoeing is best for birding pics. We canoed right up to this little guy.
Paddling upstream we paused when we heard dogs barking… low and behold we never expected to see this pair peering out from under a log, they were defending their space by making a “woof woof” noise. I was delighted to see them and haven’t seen them since.
I’m not sure how this Heron know there were fish in all that duck weed, but this fellow had no trouble finding them in the Beaver River.
Every year they return to raise several broods of chicks, we always wonder how they manage not to fall out of the nest… the cats wonder too.
I had no idea to look for these usually silent birds in the trees, we canoe past silently, they watch us silently … I think we have missed them many times, when you finally “see” them – you see them often. They fish and frog from the branches, reaching down to the water.
Canoeing the Beaver River in the evening, I had never seen so many frogs migrating. They were everywhere!
The Tree Swallows are amazing, they have beautiful blue feathers and fly like stunt pilots. Trying to get a photo of their antics is next to impossible. when the young ones fledge the nest they get a lot of encouragement from their parents and fed lots of bugs, they even get fed in flight. We were lucky enough to be canoeing the Beaver River on fledgling day, which we could figure out which day it is every year, a wonderful day on the river.
5 minutes from home is Irish Lake. My dad and I went in search of Loon’s and found a beautiful sunset instead.
Sometimes paddling along the Beaver River, I can’t believe my eyes, yes this really is a Green Heron, right here in the Beaver Valley!
