Red Bellied Woodpecker
Northern Flickers
Northern Flickers spend lots of time on the ground, and when in trees they’re often perched upright on horizontal branches instead of leaning against their tails on a trunk. They fly in an up-and-down path using heavy flaps interspersed with glides, like many woodpeckers. This pair were on the road side by our farm.

Red-headed Woodpecker
Wow this one doesn’t make holes in trees, instead it hops along the branches foraging for insects… that’s different.
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Carefully lifting the bark to see what it was he could hear behind the bark, fascinating behaviors.
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Look what arrived at the feeder today! In 20 years I have not seen on here on the farm until today. The ice storm seems to have had made shy birds hungry enough to risk the feeders. Put out some food, the critters appreciate it!

Red-headed woodpecker
A Red-headed Woodpecker is a delightful find. With it’s bright red head it is captivating and an exciting bird to add to ones list. This one must have a nest nearby as it has been hanging around for several weeks in the south end of the Beaver Valley in the old growth forest which happens to border onto a quiet road. 5 images.
Pileated Woodpecker
You just never know when you might see one of these while driving down Grey Road 31, in flight beside my car.
