Unbelievably hard to find, it can be right in front of you yet invisible, then once you see it, you can’t miss it, but don’t dare take your eyes off of it, because it’s just as hard to find the second and third time even tho it’s hardly moved!

Beaver River at Beaver Valley Ski Club flowing through the cedars.

The Beaver River flowing over the bridges at Beaver Valley Ski club, a trench has been dug to attempt to save the bridges by rerouting the water, which immediately filled to capacity.

Eugenia Falls mist form the torrent of water

A rare look of the Eugenia Falls over flowing. The overflow dam was almost opened which would have resulted in evacuation of the valley.

A more shy visitor to the feed put out during the ice storm.

These Grackles arrived from the south to the ice storm and starving hungry. I bought a bag of corn for them, they ate and ate. Here you can see the beautiful breeding plumage of the Grackles.

This hungry little fellow was out right before the ice storm hit, he was so hungry nibbling on a single piece of grass he didn’t care that I walked up and took a photo, in a few months they will be not so hungry and far more scarce.

Here is a piece of trivia for you … they hold the sun flower seed eating record of 96 seeds in five minutes… I had no idea that someone keeps track of these things!

Small white goose with black primary feathers and stubby red based bill. Often in company with other geese. Our smallest goose found in Ontario, this one was at the Minesing Wetlands.

I was looking for Snowy Owls and found this little fellow instead, actually I have seen 4 this week on different country roads, all out of range until today. I had no idea that Mink swim for fish and are very good divers, they are more like Otters than I thought. Then I was sad to think anyone would cage such a playful animal on fur farms that obviously has tons of energy and intelligence. Happy to get to know a bit more about Mink.

On a mild March day, these birds were picking up gravel and some grain dropped by a grain truck at the sides of the roads.

In the middle of all the sparrows was this brightly coloured little bird, flocking to the extra feed I put out during the ice storm to get a welcome snack. You can see the ice pellets on it’s feathers.

I love these friendly little birds, they love the feeders and provide me with live TV drama all day. They will even pose for a photo.

Often in the flock with the goldfinches, a little shyer although the feeder is a favourite place to be.

Saw three, captured two with my camera… driving along Grey Road 13 north of Heathcoate. I know there was one for several years on this stretch of road, and now there are three that I have seen. Frequently they are mistaken for Magpies!

Every fall the ski resorts pressure test the snow making systems and turn all the guns on full blast misting the slopes with a fine spray of water. If any leaks developed under the high pressure of the pumps required to make snow during colder temperatures it can be more easily welded before the snow arrives.
