Purple Martins
This was a very successful Martin house with more than 50 in the colony, they actually opened the house at night and counted the sleeping birds, done by the Audibon Bird Society volunteers.

This house sparrow calls Home Depot home. The sparrows in Collingwood have learned how to activate the beam which opens the sliding doors for them to go in and out at will, pretty smart little birds. This one was sitting on a model shed chirping so loudly it’s echo was deafening in the loading area.

Starlings are loud, and the “me first” cries are very competitive, parent birds work fast to bring back meals and the chicks are eager to see them return. These are in our barn wall, I see them every day and finally took a photo. Our farm is home to so many different birds it is incredible.

They are so cute, a little male and female hop along the logs while father watches from the dish on our farm lawn.

The Flycatchers have nested in one of our boxes on the lawn, and are the only eastern flycatchers that do nest in holes. They have been quiet after a lot of activity, hopefully they are sitting on eggs and we will more action soon.

These are generally quick to fly, even tho we see many, it can be hard to get a clean shot of one. This female was distracted gather nesting material and I was able to sneak in a few shots.

Yep, I fell big time on a tippy piece of shale, it won. I was wet and bruised, the camera survived thank goodness! Located on the Bruce Trail near Heathcote Ontario in the Beaver Valley.

Graceful yet awkward…

In just a few minutes this female Mountain Bluebird gathered many insects in the beautiful meadow, extremely eager to feed the chicks inside the nesting box, it was all business. What a delight to watch.

Famous last words “there won’t be anything in this pond” bird number 157 was in this pond!

Once can’t help to notice the Pelican patroling the beaches in Florida, they seem to cruise for hours. This one cruised right into a
sunset.
Beautiful, the perfect holiday beach with white fine sand that went on forever. This photo was from my first night walking down the Beach with my hosts Pauline and Ron who I thank very much for their hospitality and putting up with my ridiculous birding.

These gulls are everywhere along the Florida shore line. Efficient clean up crews pick up any little morsel left behind on the beaches. These photos were taken at Siesta Key Beach at sunset. ( it was late being assigned #174, missed this one)

The beaches at Siesta Key Florida are so very beautiful, these Willets run up and down the beach in the sunset looking for snacks in the sand, how lucky they are! Willets are often seen alone. They walk deliberately, pausing to probe for crabs, worms and other prey in sand and mudflats, or to pick at insects and mollusks.

My first bird to photograph in Florida this year were Pelicans, right outside the place I was staying was a beautiful harbour with many boats. The reflections on the water were fabulous. I hardly had to leave the front door and I had some nice pics a nice way to start the photographic holiday.

This vibrant fellow had a bright and cheerful song to sing, and we were his audience on a beautiful Florida day.

I spent a few minutes today observing this beautiful creature, best left alone I carried on and let her be.
4 photos…

This scene certainly made me do a double take, the two were quite relaxed in the late day sun enjoying the same log.

This fellow was determined to have his photo taken, bird #151 perched right in front of the camera, the zoomed out photo shows how adamant he was! Like a Grackle we see at home, however this fellow was in Florida and is a super sized huge Grackle.

While in Florida I was lucky enough to come across a Heron Rookery, these young herons look like they are almost at the fledgling age. They are always starving hungry and very demanding of the parents when they bring back a meal which then needs to be coughed up.
